As soon as my parents came home from work, they could tell something was wrong. I’m sure my swollen eyes and red, stuffy nose were a good indication. When I filled them in, they both had surprisingly little to say.

“Oh, honey, you know how boys are. They have fickle hearts. First loves rarely last. And someday you’ll realize it wasn’t the kind of love you can build a future on.”

Thanks for making me feel better Mom. Good to know he could get me out of his heart so fast.

“Noah has to focus on his fighting and you need to go to college. He did you both a favor, you just don’t realize it yet.”

Thanks for being so sympathetic Dad.

No one understands the depth of my love for Noah. This isn’t some high school crush that’s going to wane with time.

“I’m going to bed. I just want to go to sleep and forget this day ever happened.”

Trudging up the stairs I close myself in my room, I lean back on my door and breathe a sigh of relief. I don’t want to be around anyone right now. Not even the people that love me the most. I used to think Noah fell into that category, but I guess I was wrong.

Pulling my phone from my pocket, I sit down on my bed, crossing my legs, and bracing my elbows on my knees. Staring down at the screen with his name displayed, I wonder if I should call him. I bite on my bottom lip. Should I? What have I got to lose?

Tapping his name, I hold my breath, praying he’ll answer. Please answer...this number is no longer in service. Frowning, I pull the phone away from my ear and glance at the screen, hoping I somehow dialed the wrong number. Nope. His name is there, clear as can be. He disconnected his phone. Does he hate me that much?

Sobbing, I throw the phone across my room. It crashes into the wall and shatters into pieces. I’m devastated. This is the worst day of my life. Tugging the ring he gave me off my finger, I open the top drawer to my nightstand and unceremoniously drop it inside, my tears blurring my vision.

Fuck you, Noah Nolan. I’ll get you out of my heart someday.
